Today members of the Steese Volunteer Fire Department participated in the 14th Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony hosted by the Farthest North Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society Chapter, in conjunction with the City of Fairbanks Fire Department and the University Fire Department Student Firefighters Association.  In memory of the 343 Firefighters who gave their lives during the attacks on the World Trade Center towers fourteen years ago, the names of the fallen were read off during a solemn ceremony honoring their sacrifice and dedication to saving the American citizens caught up in the events of that horrific day.

Today we remember all of the fallen men and women of the fire service, and the families of those who have perished in the line of duty.  We honor the commitment and dedication of the volunteer and career firefighters all over the country, and specifically those in the Interior of Alaska who dedicate tens of thousands of hours a year to keeping the public safe.  We thank their families for their faithful support of our members and we thank the public who support our volunteers and staff in their efforts to protect our service area.  May we never forget the sacrifice that many are called to give, and may we never forget the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001.  RFB ~ Captain Hand
